Today is Halloween, 2004.  Tonight many will celebrate. They will have parties, dress up and attempt to disguise themselves.  They will hide behind a costume and perhaps a mask at a party but are they really hiding? The Bible says that God sees ones thought life, ones heart and nothing is hid from Him.  Now before you jump all over me for not understanding that people will say the reasons for going to the party is to have some fun….I know and you know it’s most likely the hope of getting wasted and then anything will happen. Some of you go for other reasons, such as pertains to the true meaning of Halloween involving gruesomeness and even death.  This involves much more than I will go into here. One constant holds true however, and that is that many of you will dress up into everything from witches, goblins, goons, superman, spider man or women, trash cans, fairies to the devil himself.  Some folks might not need to disguise themselves or “dress up” per say as they look pretty convincing as they are but I digress.
So the point remains, are you running from God?  Are the millions who will attend a party tonight, are they attempting to hide from God?  Sadly, I believe many are doing just that each and every day.  I include myself in this category as well. Why might this be you ask?  I believe the Bible gives us the answer in a word: Sin.  Many words support this and in many cases are symptoms of this sin disease we are plagued with.  Words like, rebellion, enemies, natural, inborn, and pride are all related to our disease of sin.  It works something like this. You are sick with sin and so pride probably reins supreme within, causing rebellion against God which sets off many other symptoms of the disease.  Similarly, if you’re sick, you may feel tired, weak, lack appetite and concentration, be coughing, sneezing, vomiting and simply feel great pain. Sin works much the same way except that the symptoms have a much greater impact on your life and are often even popular, filled with pleasure, excitement, attractive, disgusting, debilitating, nauseating, and more common than the common cold.  In fact, these symptoms are so common, no person on the planet can claim exemption.  Everyone has suffered a symptom of sin at one time or another whether we’ve chosen to or not.
